Continuing to perform my career in a state other than Nebraska has always been a life-long goal of mine. No offense to the corn and cows but I couldn't take another winter. Transferring my career with all the rules and regulations required looked to me as something of a mountain to climb. However, doing the footwork and preparation ahead of time makes it a way easier transition. |
Do Your Research
The first thing to do is to research your future state's board of cosmetology or department of health and human services site. On their website you can then find what is required for transferring your esthetics license. Sometimes it depends on how long you have been working in the field or how many hours you have put in for schooling. You may have to go back to school, take their state boards, or attend additional meetings. There is usually a fee involved, paperwork and proof of proper identification. It is essential to make sure to read through thoroughly so nothing is missed.
Contact Your State
Each state more than likely requires your schooling transcripts and an official certificate of license. This can be obtained through contacting your own state's board and requesting they send them forward. A fee will be involved as well.
Things To Keep In Mind
Time is a major factor to consider. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time before the move to obtain your license so you can apply for jobs before you get there. Also, don't be afraid to ask the state department licensing questions regarding your transfer. They're happy to help via email or phone call.
